Information on
Naperville Area
Humane Society

A portion of the proceeds from the 2008 Naperville Wine Festival presented by Van Kampen Investments will be donated to the Naperville Area Humane Society

History
In 1979, the Naperville Humane Society was formed by a group of caring citizens who dedicated themselves to helping homeless companion animals in their community. These individuals fostered animals in their homes until permanent homes could be found. Wishing to serve more people and animals, the group solicited the financial support of the community and built a 3,500 square foot shelter in 1988. After 25 years and more than 20,000 animals served, the name of the organization was officially changed to Naperville Area Humane Society to more accurately reflect the areas the served.

Mission
Naperville Area Humane Society is a private, not-for-profit organization founded in 1979 to develop and implement animal welfare programs and services within Naperville and the surrounding area. The goal is to protect animals and prevent animal suffering. While providing shelter and adoption programs for homeless animals, NAHS also strives to educate the community on compassion, respect and kindness towards all living things.

Nestled along the banks of the DuPage River, 30 miles west of Chicago, Naperville, Illinois is home to more than 130,000 people.

Founded by Captain Joseph Naper in 1831, Naperville is the area's oldest settlement and DuPage's original county seat. The city showcases its heritage through Naper Settlement, Chicagoland's only 19th century living historic village.

With ready access to a variety of transportation, housing and employment options, this booming suburb attracts thousands of new residents each year, making it one of the fastest growing communities in the United States. Naperville's diversified employer base features high technology firms, retailers and factories, as well as small and home-based businesses.
